CRC Rubber Tire Paint Mask Set

Another "What if?" idea brought to us by Steve Downs over at Trick Lidz Graphix.

What if you could change the color of the CRC Rubber Tire wheels (CLN-2314 GTR Set only, not tested or guaranteed with the F1 version), without all the tape, time, and hassle that usually means you don't bother at all?

I took it one step further and made this encapsulation system that keeps the backside of the wheels completely clean of paint (so tech stickers are unaffected at big events), and keeps any chance of overspray off your tread.

Set includes 4 pieces: Inner Mask/Base for Front wheels and for Rear Wheels, with Matching Cups for each.  You would need 2 sets to do 4 wheels at one time.  The base fits into the cup with a light friction fit, allowing you to add some tension to the sidewall lip for a crisp paint line.

Choice of paint is up to you, but I suggest a fast drying model paint for plastics, and highly suggest doing so with an air brush.  Tamiya X-## Airbrush acrylics cover well and dry fast.  These don't take a lot of paint to cover, and a set of 4 wheels can be easily sprayed in under 5 min with good prep ahead of time.  Obviously, paint choice and durability can also be influenced by what kind of prep and cleaners you use on your tires.  We're just providing the means to paint your wheels quickly, the methods are up to you.

On my test run, I was able to shake the wheel out of it's cup, and remove the base from the wheel without touching any potentially wet paint, and prep the next tire to go right away.  Your mileage may vary.

I also suggest choosing a contrasting color to your anticipated paint choice, and not a color so dark that you can't tell where the wheel and tire is in relation to the masking cup.
